Are you ready to take your BBQ skills to the next level? Whether you're a seasoned grill master or a beginner, cooking the perfect BBQ requires a combination of technique, preparation, and attention to detail.
1. Prepare your Meat
Bring your meat to room temperature prior to cooking. This will allow for more even cooking and enhance the natural flavours. Now is the time you rub your meat rub onto your steak. However, if you are marinading, check the time for your marinade. Some marinades state you should marinade overnight. Others allow half an hour to two hours for marinading.
2. Master the Fire
Pre heat your clean BBQ plate or grill and spray, brush or wipe them down with a good cooking oil. Heat for 10 - 20 minutes on a medium to high heat depending on your BBQ. This will ensure your grill or plate will be non stick and the perfect surface to cook on.
3. Know your BBQ
Understand your BBQ and all of its functions. Hooded BBQ's allow you to rotisserie or roast cuts of meats easily, therefore freeing up your time to mingle with your family and friends and have a beer or wine whilst the BBQ does all the work for you. Just set a timer so you don't forget all about it!!
4. Control the Heat
Manage and learn your temperatures. All BBQs are different in their heat settings so it is important to know what range your low, medium or high settings actually are. Heat your BBQ on quite a high setting when warming it up and then turn it down to half or 3/4. All meat is cooked differently and this is why it is important to know your heat settings. For example, when grilling, sausages can flare up and cause little fat fires when the heat is too high.
5. Sear and Seal
Make sure you sear and seal your steak to lock in moisture and its natural and scrumptious flavours. Don't toss or constantly flip your meat too early. Searing and sealing helps to lock in moisture and this is only achieve when you seal correctly. Usually the more turns you give your steak results in a dry and unevenly cooked steak. Ideally you should only flip or turn over the meat once. Don't become a BBQ tosser ;)
6. Rest and Serve
Rest your steak or red meat prior to consuming. Resting your meat allows your meat to settle locking in moisture and flavour and helping with making your steak tender prior to consuming.
7. Experiment with Flavour
While traditional BBQ flavours are undeniably delicious, don't be afraid to experiment with different flavours and seasonings. Try adding a homemade BBQ sauce, a sprinkle of herbs, or a dash of spice to elevate the taste of your BBQ. And of course, try our broth based meat rubs to get a hit of gut health and a serious punch of flavour.
8. Did Someone Say Salad?
Enjoy your BBQ with all its accompaniments and condiments. Make a salad (I can hear all the males now gasp with the shock and horror of it all. Do salads add or subtract from a BBQ? That is a whole other debate!) Have a wine, a beer, some coconut water? And most importantly get somebody else to clean the BBQ for you.So, are you ready to impress your family and friends with your BBQ skills? Follow these steps, and you'll be well on your way to cooking the perfect BBQ every time.
